'I want to play in the Champions League and win trophies' - Buttner departs Man United

The Dutch full-back has agreed to join Russian club Dynamo Moscow.

ALEXANDER BUTTNER HAS joined Dynamo Moscow from Manchester United.

The 25-year-old Dutch full-back was signed from Vitesse Arnhem by Alex Ferguson in August 2012 as back-up to Patrice Evra but was restricted to 13 Premier League appearances in his two seasons in England.

Louis van Gaal is set to take over after the World Cup and with Evra signing a one-year contract extension and speculation that Southampton’s Luke Shaw will arrive this summer, Buttner has left for the Russian capital.

“I want to play in the Champions League and win trophies,” Buttner told the club’s website. “Dynamo are a very strong team and I am confident that we will fighting for the title this season.

“This is my first time in Moscow, and it will take time adjust with my family. They are here with me so that will make it easier to adapt.”

Dynamo finished fourth in the Russian league last season, meaning they qualify for the Europa League, and their current squad includes the likes of former Germany striker Kevin Kuranyi, ex-Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba and Russian internationals Yuri Zhirkov and Igor Denisov.
