Pardew: "What’s important now is to move the club to the next level." Crystal Palace

No 8-year contract this time as Palace confirm Pardew appointment

Pardew on a mission to create “some new exciting history” at Selhurst Park.

CRYSTAL PALACE HAVE confirmed Alan Pardew’s appointment as manager on a three-and-a-half year contract.

The former Palace midfielder will take charge for the first time on Sunday when the Eagles travel to non-league Dover Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup.

He said: “Everyone knows my history here, what’s important now is to move the club to the next level.

“I believe with the backing of Steve [Parish, chairman] and the board I can help achieve that and create some new exciting history for the club.”

Palace also thanked Newcastle United and chairman Mike Ashley for their co-operation in talks over Pardew’s appointment.

Tim Sherwood remains the favourite to replace him at St James’ Park, although John Carver and Steve Stone will be in charge for this afternoon’s cup tie at Leicester City.

Pardew leaves Newcastle “with our best wishes and thanks,” managing director Lee Charnley said in a statement.

“Despite public perceptions, fuelled by the media, Mike Ashley had never met nor spoken to Alan before his appointment.

“However, what developed over the last four years was a very strong and positive relationship between all parties.

“It is these relationships that, four years later, means the club is in a far better position, both on and off the field, and Alan has had a big part to play in that.”
