Irish midfielder handed five-match ban by FA for abusing female official

Alan McCormack is suspended until December.

BRENTFORD MIDFIELDER ALAN McCormack has been slapped with a five-match ban for using abusive language towards a female official.

The Dubliner, who represented Ireland at underage level, has also been fined £6,000 by the Football Association and must attend an educational course.

An independent commission found McCormack breached FA Rule E3(2) after making reference to Lisa Rashid’s gender during Brentford’s 2-1 win over Cardiff on 19 April.

The 32-year-old has played for Preston North End, Southend United, Charlton Athletic, Swindon Town and Brentford during a 13-year career in the Football League.

He joined Brentford in 2013 and has made 96 appearances for the west London club.

Dean Smith’s side lie eighth in the Championship table, with McCormack now suspended until the fixture against Norwich City on 3 December.
