Alan Mathews quits Shels, Wikipedia says he's Bryan Dobson in an Alan Mathews mask

It’s the end of the road for ‘Mathews’ at Tolka Park.

SHELBOURNE ARE LOOKING for a new manager this evening after Alan Mathews resigned.

Shels have endured a tough start to the Airtricity League season; they currently sit bottom with just six points from 13 games.

“The club’s board of Management wishes to thank Alan for his tireless work on the club’s behalf and in particular for securing the return of the club to the Premier Division,” a statement from the Tolka Park outfit reads.

“The board will now set about identifying a suitable replacement and in the interim Kevin Doherty will take over management of the team.”

And though a solitary win from the season so far may be explanation enough for the former Longford Town and Cork City manager’s exit, one Wikipedia user explained it’s because: “the board discovered he was actually RTE’s Bryan Dobson wearing a novelty Alan Matthew’s mask. The real Matthews was kidnapped by Dobson last Christmas and tied and gagged in his basement with only pieces of hay and marmite to chew on.”

Shels face cross-town rivals St Patrick’s Ahtletic at home tomorrow night.
