Alan Mathews named as Bray Wanderers manager

Meanwhile, ex-player Barry O’Connor has been confirmed as the club’s assistant coach.

ALAN MATHEWS HAS been appointed as the new Bray Wanderers manager, the club have announced.

The former Shelbourne and Cork City boss will be joined by ex-Bray player Barry O’Connor, who takes up the role of assistant manager.

Reacting to the news, General Manager Jack O’Neill said:

“We are delighted that Alan Mathews has taken on this role and this will be one of a number of announcements that the club will be making in the coming weeks. We would like to welcome both Alan and Barry back to the club and would like to wish both of them every success for the coming season. On behalf of the club, we would like to thank Pat Devlin and his backroom team for the marvellous service that they have given to Bray Wanderers since our entry into the League of Ireland in 1985.”

Meanwhile, Mathews added:

“I am delighted to have been given this exciting opportunity and look forward to commencing pre-season training. There are a lot of good people at this football club and both Barry O’Connor and I will put all our energy and commitment into having a successful season in 2014.”
