Airtricity League wrap: Dundalk go top as Pats are held by Bohs

It was all change at the top of the Premier Division tonight.

Updated 11.55pm

UCD 0-2 Dundalk

Dundalk went top of the Airtricity League Premier Division this evening thanks to a 2-0 win at the UCD Bowl.

The visitors had the better of the first half but weren’t able to convert glorious chances from Dane Massey and Brian Garland into goals.

There was a strange series of events mid-way through the second half when UCD’s Michael Kelly was booked before coming on as a 57th minute substitute. Four minutes later he was off after receiving a second yellow for a foul on  Stephen O’Donnell.

Dundalk finally took a deserved lead on 67 minutes when Pat Hoban found himself on the end of an O’Donnell cross and finished expertly.

They had to wait until the 83rd minute to secure the game though when Richard Towell curled a left foot shot into the top corner, leaving Ger Barron with no chance.

St Patrick’s Athletic 1-1 Bohemians

A battling second half performance gave Bohemians a share of the spoils in Inchicore this evening.

The visitors actually started the game the brighter but they were caught on the break by Pats when Daryl Kavanagh finished after some bright work by Chris Forrester.

After good pressure in the second half, Bohs finally got the equaliser they deserved when Dinny Corcoran latched on to a misplaced pass from Ian Birmingham and slotted home from a tight angle.

While the result drops Pats to second in the table, they do have a game in hand on Dundalk.

Drogheda United 2-0 Bray Wanderers

Two goals in the last ten minutes from Gavin Brennan and Gary O’Neill gave Drogheda the win tonight and cemented Bray’s spot at the foot of the Premier Division table.

Kevin O’Connor came closest for the visitors but, in truth, they never really looked like scoring and, though they’re level on points with Shelbourne, the Dublin side are now six goals better off on goal difference.

Cork City 4-1 Derry City

Three goals in ten second half minutes was enough to give Cork all three points at home against Derry City.

Danny Morrissey got a hat-trick for the home side with Ciaran Kilduff brilliantly finishing the other, while Rory Patterson’s strike in the 84th minute was little more than consolation for Derry.

Shelbourne 1-2 Shamrock Rovers

Mark Quigley scored a goal, missed a penalty and promptly got sent off but Shamrock Rovers still ran out 2-1 winners over Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Quigley gave  Rovers the lead after 12 minutes before Ronan Finn doubled their advantage 10 minutes later.

Though Shels pulled one back from the penalty spot in the second half, they weren’t able to get a second and remain on 20 points, second from bottom of the table.

Both the goals so far from Chelsea and Bayern’s Super Cup clash

Was this the best Liverpool-United game ever?
