Airtricity League: Wins for Saints and Drogheda

The Saints hit UCD for five at Inchicore this evening while 10-man Drogs hung on against 10-man Shels.

ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC kept up their part of the bargain with a comprehensive win over UCD tonight.

The title-hopefuls hammered the Students 5-0 at Richmond Park tonight, to try to keep some pressure on champions-elect Sligo Rovers, who remain five points clear with a game in hand.

Jake Kelly opened the scoring after 15 minutes before Vinny Faherty hit a second-half hat-trick, with Anto Flood also striking after 72 minutes.

Elsewhere,  Drogheda United saw off Shelbourne 2-1 at Hunky Dorys Park. Declan ‘Fabio’ O’Brien scored from the spot for the home side midway through the first period. Ryan Brennan doubled the hosts’ advantage before Philly Gorman pulled one back for Shels in the dying minutes.

But Drogheda held on for the win and stay four points behind Pat’s, having played a game less.
