Gary Rogers (Sligo Rovers) – Saved Jason Byrne’s penalty to preserve his second straight clean sheet.
Defence
Sean Heaney (Shamrock Rovers) – The 18-year-old looked comfortable on his home debut against Bray, winning an early penalty and then scoring what turned out to be Rovers’ winner.
Cliff Byrne (Derry City) – The Derry skipper was immense at the heart of the defence once again. Threw his body on the line to block a number of Limerick attacks and needed to be at his best to deal with the threat from Rory Gaffney’s missile-like long throw-ins.

Brian Lenihan (Cork City) – Provided Cork with a good attacking threat against UCD even after they had been reduced to 10 men.
Midfield
Chris Forrester (St Patrick’s Athletic) – Unsurprisingly, the wing wonder makes the team on the back of his stunning long range volley. His assist for Pat’s third and his jinky run and finish for the fourth weren’t bad either. A constant menace.
Darren Meenan (Dundalk) – Meenan was a bundle of energy against Athlone and most of Dundalk’s best attacking play came from his tireless running, while he also was in the right place at the right time to win the all-important penalty.
Lee Lynch (St Patrick’s Athletic) - The midfielder got his chance when Bolger and Brennan were suspended last week and kept his place on Monday against Drogheda. He didn’t disappoint with an energetic, bustling midfield performance. Deserved his goal.
Gary McCabe (Shamrock Rovers) – McCabe continued his fine start to the season with another busy performance against Bray. Held his nerve to convert an early penalty.
Kealan Dillon (Athlone) – The Athlone winger stood out as a shining example of good footwork and purposeful attacking play against Dundalk, a game where route one football was the primary option for both sides.
Forwards
Michael Duffy (Derry City) – The lively winger was the Candystripes’ only real threat for much of the game against Limerick. A constant menace on the left wing and fashioned the home side’s best chance of the game when getting behind the defence before drilling the ball into the side netting.
Kevin Devaney (Bohemians) – One of the few positives for Owen Heary in the defeat to Sligo. An early injury saw Devaney come off the bench to play as a lone striker and he was at the heart of Bohs’ best moves.

Jason Byrne scored a chip so delicious it should come with salt and vinegar
