Airtricity League wrap: Dundalk overcome Derry, Cork defeat Sligo

Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers were held to a 0-0 draw against Bray Wanderers.

SLIGO ROVERS’ TITLE aspirations suffered a setback this evening, as they lost 3-1 to Cork City at Turner’s Cross.

Cork’s Daryl Horgan opened the scoring just after half-time, lobbing goalkeeper Gary Rogers to give the hosts the advantage.

Horgan then doubled his side’s advantage with another superb finish, before David McMillan got the visitors back in the game with five minutes remaining.

However, on his first appearance for the club, Ciarán Kilduff capitalised on poor defending late on, and finished calmly to seal Cork’s victory.

Meanwhile, Dundalk claimed a 1-0 victory over Derry at the Brandywell, in another game that could ultimately have a major impact on the title race.

It was Tiernan Mulvenna who scored a dramatic injury-time winner for his side amid a tightly fought contest.

Elsewhere, Shamrock Rovers had to settle for a 0-0 draw in their game with Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.

However, the visitors were left frustrated, as Ken Oman’s late headed goal was controversially ruled out, owing to an apparent push in the build-up.

Finally, Limerick secured a 1-0 win over Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

Axel Bossekota got the only goal of the game on 64 minutes with a neat finish, meaning Bohs have now gone 10 games without a win.

Also tonight, in the First Division, Finn Harps drew 2-2 with Cobh Ramblers, while Athlone Town beat Wexford Youths 2-0.
