Limerick claim point off Cork City on return to big time

Six goals in six League of Ireland games this weekend. Welcome back.

LIMERICK CITY CANCELLED out the attacking threat of Cork City to claim a draw on their return to the country’s premier division.

Following a 19-year absence from the top flight, Limerick played with passion and commitment in soft conditions at the home of Munster Rugby.

Daryl Horgan was the liveliest of the visiting team in the first half and had one shot well saved while the other was blocked on the edge of the box.

The final chance of a piecemeal half fell to Dan Murray but his header was comfortably claimed.

Limerick pressed after the break and put in a number of dangerous crosses that City captain Danny Murphy and goalkeeper Mark McNulty were chiefly responsible for clearing, and claiming.

Following a close call in the box, City took the attacking initiative to the home side and Shane Duggan had arguably the best chance to snatch all three points but his shot was straight at Barry Ryan in the Limerick goal.

Limerick coach Stuart Taylor while be pleased with the grit displayed by his team but attacking quality in the final third was lacking from both sides.
