Win for Waterford as top of the table Shels can only draw in Airtricity First Division

Galway and Finn Harps also played out a draw this evening.

Wexford Youths 1-3 Waterford United

THEY MAY HAVE their problems off the pitch but Waterford United moved into fourth spot in the Airtricity League First Division this evening with a 3-1 win away to Wexford Youths.

The visitors took the lead just before the break, Paddy Barrett finishing after a Shane Murray corner.

They doubled that lead five minutes after the break when Gary Delaney rose highest to nod home Philip Drohan’s cross and were 3-0 up and cruising on 58 minutes when Kevin O’Connor struck a sublime free kick from all of 25-yards to give Graham Doyle no chance.

Ben Ryan scored a late consolation from the spot but the points head to Waterford who move to within two points of second placed Wexford who remain on 16.

Shelbourne 0-0 Shamrock Rovers B

Shels are now eight points clear at the top of the First Divsion despite a goalless draw with Shamrock Rovers B in Tolka Park this evening.

Substitute Jordan Keegan had the game’s best chance deep into second half injury time but Shane Fagan made a good save in the Rovers goal to deny the hosts.

Galway 1-1 Finn Harps

In the night’s other game, third placed Galway played out a 1-1 draw with Finn Harps; Paul Sinnott the hero for the home side with a 90th minute equaliser.

Earlier, Ruairi Keating had given the visitors – reduced to 10 men after just 30 minutes – the lead though there was more than a hint of offside about the striker’s goal. However, Ollie Horgan’s men couldn’t hold on for the win.
