AILEEN REID SECURED 21st place in women’s triathlon at the Olympic Games this afternoon.
The 34-year-old produced a strong run to move up 15 places over the final leg of the event.
The Derry native was looking to make amends for London 2012 when she finished 43rd following a crash during the bike section.
There were no such mistakes this time around as she came in just under five minutes behind the winner, Gwen Jorgensen.
The US athlete lived up to her billing as favourite as she pulled clear in the run to finish ahead of London champion Nicola Spirig.
Vicky Holland took third place for GB & NI in a sprint finish with compatriot Non Stanford.
