IRELAND WINGER AIDEN McGeady says he is shocked at the decision of Neil Lennon to resign from his role at Celtic, but has seen enough of the Armagh native to feel he can be a success in the Premier League.
Lennon resigned as manager of Celtic today after just over four years at the helm. And although McGeady departed Glasgow for Spartak Moscow before Lennon’s first season in charge, the 28-year-old looks back on his short period under Lennon positively.

“When I was at Celtic he was really good,” EA Sports ambassador McGeady said before being whisked away to Ireland training in Malahide today.
“He only managed us for a short period of time, 19 games, but he was great. I got on really well with him and we had a great run of form when he took over.
“Even when I left he was great, he was in the middle of it all and let me go to Moscow for a few days before I signed. I think he would do well. It’s a different pressure down there if he does go down there if he does go down. As opposed to having to win every trophy available.”
As not only an ex-Celtic player, but a lifelong fan, McGeady said he was shocked at the timing of Lennon’s exit, but accepts that the time may be right for him to seek out a new challenge.
“From his point of view he’s probably thought he’s done all he can with Celtic. I can see where he’s coming from if he does think that. He’s won a lot of cups, a lot of titles and maybe time for a fresh start.
“Celtic’s a massive club and it’d be difficult to leave, and as a Celtic fan it’s disappointing to see him leave — if he’s resigned, he’s probably got something up his sleeves.”
