Aiden McGeady hit with 6-match ban by Russian FA

The Ireland winger was sent off while playing for Spartak Moscow last week.

IRISH INTERNATIONAL AIDEN McGeady has been banned for six matches and fined by the Russian FA.

Officials handed down the ban after reviewing footage of McGeady’s controversial red card in Spartak Moscow’s defeat to Mordovia Saransk last week.

The winger was sent off in the first half and later accused of causing extensive damage to the dressing room at Saransk Stadium.

McGeady was banned for four domestic matches for his sending off and an additional two matches for his subsequent behaviour, as well as picking up a fine of 110,000 rubles (€26,000).

McGeady has been in Russia for four years but has been repeatedly linked with a return to British football later this summer.
