Ace nets golfer his own weight in ham

Controversial golfer Elliot Saltman claimed an unusual prize when he made his third hole-in-one of the European Tour season during the second round of the Madrid Masters.

SCOTTISH GOLFER ELLIOT Saltman has enjoyed something of a rollercoaster 2011.

He’s served a three-month ban for cheating, been questioned by police after a scuffle with a fellow competitor in a golf club car park and played enough poor golf to drop to a lowly 193rd on the Race to Dubai ranking.

But as fleeting as they may have been, the season hasn’t been without its high-points, the latest of which came during yesterday’s second round of the Madrid Masters, when Saltman carded a hole-in-one.

His third such score of the season (incredibly, he aced the 17th hole at Celtic Manor in consecutive rounds during June’s Wales Open), the event’s spomsors granted Saltman an unusual prize: his own weight in ham.

According to ESPN, the 29-year-0ld said he expects the ham– all 238 lbs of it– will be difficult to transport to Scotland:

“I don’t think they’ll let me take that on the plane.”

After missing the cut in Spain, Saltman resides a lowly 193rd on the European Tour’s Race to Dubai ranking.
