ABERDEEN’S EUROPA LEAGUE campaign came to an embarrassing end on Thursday night.

In the dying moments of the match, Graeme Shinnie’s backpass to Joe Lewis hit a divot in the ground and bobbled away into the net, as the goalkeeper tried and failed to clear his lines by wildly swinging at and missing the ball.

It completed a miserable night for Aberdeen, who were set to exit the competition on away goals anyway before this moment of late drama.

It was a bad night for Irish striker Adam Rooney, who missed a penalty that would have put his team ahead in the tie, while fellow Irishman Jonny Hayes missed the game due to a hamstring injury.
