A-League teams get in the festive spirit with Christmas cracker coin toss

No better way to use the leftovers.

CHRISTMAS DOWN UNDER can seem a world apart compared to the festivities which take place at home but the A-League embraced the seasonal spirit with a rather unique pre-match coin toss.

Ahead of the Boxing Day fixture between Sydney FC and Central Coast Mariners earlier, the referee summoned the two captains for the formality of the coin toss.

Nothing untoward here.

But Benjamin Williams decided to pull out a Christmas cracker (perhaps one of the leftovers from yesterday) and use it to decide which team kicked-off.

So captains Alex Brosque and former Sheffield United midfielder Nick Montgomery scrapped the traditional coin toss for a move novel, and festive, method.

Brosque won the cracker pull (but didn’t read the joke or wear the hat) and went onto find the net as his side recorded a 4-1 win in sweltering conditions.
