1. It was built in 1929
Nicknamed ‘The House That Ruth Built’ after legendary Yankees batter Babe Ruth, who spent 14 years with the club between 1920-1934.

2. Glasgow Celtic played the New York Yankees soccer club there back in 1931
The Hoops toured the US and after defeated their hosts 3-1 thanks to goals from Charles Napier, Alexander Thompson and Robert Thompson.
3. The stadium hosted two of the sport’s greatest ever players in 1976
During his spell in the US George Best’s LA Aztecs took on the New York Cosmos – who had Brazilian legend Pele in their ranks at the time.

5. The new stadium opened in 2009
At a cost of $1.5 billion, a new Yankee Staidum was constructed across the street with many of the old ground’s designs replicated. It currently holds 50,000.
