David Platt: am I bothered? Steve Drew/EMPICS Sport

Manchester City may not reinforce during January window, admits David Platt

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t do any business,” the Eastlands assistant said yesterday.

MANCHESTER CITY MANAGER manager David Platt says the reigning champions may not sign any players in the January transfer window.

Having failed to score in their shock 1-0 defeat away to Sunderland on Boxing Day, Manchester City’s strike force have come under fire, with Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez having hit the back of the net just once each in their last eight matches.

City have scored only one goal in their past two English Premier League games, but Platt does not believe Roberto Mancini will buy a new striker in January.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t do any business,” Platt said on Friday.

With half the season left in England’s top tier, leaders Manchester United have a seven-point margin over their local rivals. However, Platt remains confident Manchester City can reel in their neighbours’ lead.

Platt believes Manchester City are playing well and the statistics show they deserve better results and more goals.

“Seven points is a significant amount, there’s no doubt about it, United are in the driving seat,” he said. ”But with half a season to go I don’t think it’s insurmountable by any stretch of the imagination.

“It’s not as if we’re playing badly. We feel as though we are playing well.  We are producing the efforts on target, we dominate possession, we’re dominating every statistic in most games apart from the goals.

“We have been beaten 1-0 (by Sunderland) in a game that, if you throw those statistics into a computer, we would come out and we would win it, if we played it nine times out of 10.”

Bad results tonight for Villa – 5 teams now in the battle to avoid final 2 relegation places as Wolves are gone. Has any manager ever been relegated from PL in consecutive seasons with different clubs…. McLeish may b the first.
