7 things you probably didn't know about Jurgen Klopp

Some little-known facts to impress your mates.

THINK YOU KNOW a lot about the Liverpool coach?

Let’s see how many of these little-known tidbits you know…

1. His musical tastes are surprising but refreshing

On speaking about the differences between him and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, Klopp famously said:

He (Wenger) likes having the ball, playing football, passes. It’s like an orchestra. But it’s a silent song. But I like heavy metal more. I always want it loud.”

Though he does have a soft spot for Kiss, it may surprise you to learn who his all-time favourite band are. Metallica? Nope. Zeppelin? Nah. Maybe some Rammstein? Guess again.

“My mother said it, my father said it: No 1 are The Beatles,”  Klopp revealed last year.

2. He dabbles in some percussion

Klopp’s assistant coach, Peter Krawietz, has likened the management team at Liverpool to a music group.

“Jurgen is the band leader, and others are behind him playing the bass guitar or drum”, he said back in January.

And though Klopp is a born front-man, he has experience with keeping the beat going. Last Christmas, he turned up at a local children’s hospital and played the bongos while singing carols to patients.

3. He knows how to celebrate the good times

Much was made when Liverpool scored an injury-time winner to beat Norwich 5-4 in January and Klopp celebrated so hard that he ended up getting his glasses smashed.

But he’s got a bit of a track record when it comes to releasing a passionate response to goals.

In Germany, his trademark celebration was a jump that usually took him about five feet in the air. Quite impressive.

And he doesn’t even care when his outpouring of emotion doesn’t exactly go according to plan. He’s still intent on enjoying himself.

4. But he’ll apologise to fans in his own unique way if things aren’t going well

In December 2014,  Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund team had sunk to the bottom of the Bundesliga.

He didn’t wallow though.

Instead, he got his players to go behind the bar and pour drinks for the fans for over two hours at the club’s annual Christmas party in an effort to say sorry for how poorly they had been playing.

5. He loves a bit of karaoke

Klopp is charismatic and has a big personality. When Baron Von Borsig penned a song, Kloppo Du Popstar, the manager was quizzed on whether he ever saw himself entering the music business.

“I couldn’t have been a rock star,” he said.

“Although I do sing Country Road very loudly on the Playstation karoake game.”

6. He completely owns the fact he’s had hair transplant surgery

In 2013, Klopp was quizzed by German newspaper BILD about whether reports in a glossy magazine were correct.”Yes, it’s true,” he replied.

“I underwent a hair transplant and I think the results are really cool, don’t you?”

And that was that.

7. He’s a self-proclaimed ‘emotional guy’

It’s easy to get caught up in Klopp’s magnificent smile and cuddly nature. But there’s a deeply passionate other side to him too. He’s been involved in various confrontations with opposing managers in the Premier League so far, his emotions getting the better of him.

But those emotions fuel another part of him – something that pushes a deep connection with him and supporters. Adored in Germany, he’s a loyal man but the feeling is reciprocated in the stands.

Nothing showed that quite as powerfully as his farewell to Borussia Dortmund.
