LAST UPDATE | 9 Feb
SHANE LOWRY HAS roared into contention early on at the Phoenix Open.
Play was suspended due to heavy rain during the first round, but Lowry had made a blistering start in Arizona.
The Offaly man is two shots off the lead, carding a four-under 67.
Lowry powered to the top of the field with four birdies in his first six holes. A bogey on the par-three 16th momentarily stunted his progress, before back-to-back birdies rounded off an impressive opening nine. He kept it level par on the resumption, barring one more bogey.
Sahith Theegala leads on six-under with Andrew Novak in second, one short further back. Lowry is joined by S.H. Kim in a tie for third, while Jordan Spieth, Nick Taylor and Cameron Young are all on three-under in a tie for fifth.
Novak is only halfway through his first round, while Taylor and Young are also not finished.
Seamus Power has only completed four holes of his opening round and is one-under, he had a birdie on the 13th.
