6 Nations: Only 2 fly-halves required as Ireland call up extra cover

Meanwhile, Luke Marshall could yet be fit enough to make his international debut.

IRELAND COACH DECLAN Kidney has decided not to call up any additional cover at number 10 ahead of this weekend’s Six Nations clash with Scotland.

With injuries mounting after the attritional 6-12 defeat to England, second rows Lewis Stevenson and Devin Toner have been called up in place of the injured Mike McCarthy.

Munster’s James Coughlan has also been invited to the training camp at Carton House as Chris Henry is due to undergo a scan on his knee.

Uncapped Ulster centre Luke Marshall is also included in the 29-man squad despite also leaving Ulster’s win over Zebre early through injury.

The IRFU have this evening reported Marshall’s injury as bruising on both thighs, and so the Ballymena man could make his international debut at Murrayfield in the absence of Gordon D’Arcy, who fractured his foot at the Aviva Stadium.

However, no extra cover has been deemed necessary at fly-half after the hamstring injury which threatens to end Jonathan Sexton’s tournament. Ronan O’Gara and Paddy Jackson will be vying for a starting berth in Edinburgh.
