SPANISH GIANTS BARCELONA are planning to break with 113 years of tradition and wear a strip in the colours of the Catalan flag for the first time, according to reports this morning.
La Blaugrana, who finished second behind Real Madrid last season, will continue with their usual blue and red home jersey next year but intend to introduce a new red and yellow kit for away games in 2013/14, say Spanish newspaper Sport.
The Senyera, a flag consisting of red stripes on a golden yellow background, represents Catalonia, Aragon, Valencia and the Balearic Islands and can be found on the Barca crest and on the back of the current jerseys.
In a bid to promote the history of the club, however, the new marketing campaign which is aimed at โreinforcing the sporting and sentimental ties that the majority of the population of the region shareโ, will be rolled out next season.
Whatever the case, it will no doubt be an upgrade on this seasonโs horrific โice popโ change strip โ although the colours arenโt a millions miles from it!
