SERGIO GARCIA SAYS he is set to quit the DP World Tour amid the fallout over the Spaniardโs decision to join the controversial rebel series LIV Golf.
Garcia, who holds the record for the number of points won at Ryder Cups, would also be forfeiting his chance to participate in the biennial clash between Europe and the USA should he resign from the tour.
โThe truth is I am quite sure about what I am going to do with the DP World Tour, I will probably leave it,โ said Garcia after finishing the British Open on two-under-par.
โI want to play where I am wanted. I like to feel loved and in the European Tour I donโt feel loved at the moment.โ Garcia said it was a clash with one of his former Ryder Cup captains Thomas Bjorn at the BMW International Open in June that has led to his decision to leave the tour.
โThomas Bjorn came to us in the BMW Championship and said โall the players donโt want you to be hereโโ said Garcia.
โThat isnโt nice and I am at the age where I wonโt stand for nonsense like that.โ
Garcia was just one of 24 players signed up to the LIV circuit to play in the 150th Open Championship in St Andrews this week.
However, their path to play in the majors could soon be blocked if LIV events are not awarded world rankings points.
โIf I donโt play the majors then I donโt play them. In truth, that doesnโt bother me much,โ Garcia said.
โIt would be a shame to not play the Ryder Cup, but playing as Iโm playing, I wouldnโt be playing it anyway.โ
The 42-year-old ended his wait for a major win at the Masters in 2017, but saved his best for the Ryder Cup, where he was part of six European wins.
I donโt feel loved at the moment
What an absolute drama queen. If thatโs the sort of golf he can produce at the majors he wonโt be missed!
Extremely rich men cashing in on the blood money of climate destroying nations. I abhor them and everyone else who puts their own personal wealth ahead of the future of humanity. We live in a sick world.
@Sustainable Hedgehog: while this is true, why does it only get attention for golf? Not a single word along similar lines said when Haaland signed for City
@Rocky: I mostly agree with you but aswell as the money haaland joined a club who will b in the mix for every competion whereas the golfers joined for the money alone
@Sustainable Hedgehog: 1st World problem. Stay at home
He was a breath of fresh air when he broke through 20+ years ago but my god heโs brought huge bitterness with him as he gets older. Good riddance Sergio.
Refreshing candour to be fair. A realist view of his poor golf and the money that is on offer to a has been like him.
Youse havenโt a clue, how many of you know & ask where your fuel is coming from when at the petrol stations, if he wants to earn more, more power to them,
@Sean Walsh: in fairness Sean, I and i would imagine the vast majority of people put diesel in our cars and vans to go to work to literally pay the mortgage and feed out families. Electric vehicles are a pipe dream for me with the cost of them currently. World of difference between that and sergio garcia choosing to just get richer.
Used to love this dude.
But his grown into a bit of d ic k
Tell him pack his bag. Money grabbing twerp
God bless and donโt let the door hit you on the way out. Some volume of excrement comes out of his mouth.
Hope he can fit his head out the door on the way out
