FROM THE COUNTRY that gave us ‘honkball’, we have the headline of the week.
De Telegraaf, a leading newspaper in The Netherlands, led with the headline ‘Fatman and Robin (van Persie)’ in its story about the £23m sterling move of the Arsenal striker to Manchester United.
The ‘fatman’ referred to in De Telegraaf’s online piece was Wayne Rooney, scorer of 27 Premier League goals last season.
The Liverpudlian has been dogged with accusations about his weight since he burst onto the scene as a teenager with Everton a decade ago.
A section of the article reads:
Robin van Persie is the first player in the history of the Premier League to move directly from Arsenal to Manchester United. The supporters of Arsenal have pioneered a new name for the United pair: Fatman (Rooney) and Robin.
The short article notes that Van Persie is in line to make his debut for United against Everton on Monday before meeting Fulham, a team coached by fellow Dutchman, Martin Jol.
It concludes that United and Arsenal are scheduled to meet in the league, at Old Trafford, on 3 November.
Note: In The Netherlands, baseball is called honkball.
