THE CEREMONIES FOR the 2021 GAA-GPA and camogie All-Star awards have been cancelled due to the current Covid-19 situation.
The GAA-GPA event was scheduled for Friday, 10 December at Dublinโs Convention Centre.
Organisers say an awards programme will instead be broadcast on RTร from 7pm on the same evening.
โThis decision has been taken with health and safety in mind,โ reads a statement, with organisers citing โthe ongoing challenges with Covidโ for the cancellation.
The camogie All-Star awards ceremony was due to take place next Friday, 26 November at the Osprey Hotel in Naas.
โWhile we appreciate the disappointment of all who were planning to attend, this decision has been taken with the health and safety of all in mind,โ said Alan Malone, the Camogie Associationโs operations co-ordinator.
โThe Camogie Association look forward to holding the 2021 All-Stars Awards in 2022 when the opportunity presents.โ
Itโll be interesting to see which anthem is played before the match in Belfastโฆ.and how annoyed people get whichever one is used!
@Kevin Brett: Surely just do Irelandโs Call
@Kevin Brett: oh cripes I didnโt think of that. I still remember clenching my teeth and fists listening to the UK anthem in Croke Park.
@Kevin Brett: pre 2007 world cup we played Italy in ravenhill , paisley jr having a hissy fit that only irelands call was going to be played
@Kevin Brett: Itโll be Irelandโs Call with nothing else.
@Anna Carr: Protocol (should I use that word) says โGod Save The Queenโ as the anthem of the host country followed by โIrelandโs Callโ as the anthem of the host union.
@Anna Carr: Why were you so upset? Surely we, as a nation, have moved on? And the respect that โGod Save The Queenโ was given that day was fabulous.
@Anna Carr: No such thing as a UK anthem.
@Eoin Roche: I thought that was all there was? There arenโt official anthems for the constituent territories but for the Union there is.
@sean oโdhubhghaill: that is the protocol yes as explained as why Amhrรกn na bhFiann is played in Dublin in advance of Irelands call. Will be interesting alright
Would ya look at the legs and muscles on Parsons! No wonder sheโs one of the fastest players on the field, some engines built in to those legs! Looking forward to seeing her tear it up in the 6Nโs.
I wonder how Aviva will react to this. Didnโt their sponsorship of the stadium come with a proviso that all capped Irish games had to be in Lansdowne Road? I just recall being livid that the Irish first team game at Thomond Park was uncapped for sponsorship reasons and that it robbed Nevin Spence of his senior cap.
@SomeGuy: did you read the headline ? Itโs the womens game so I doubt Aviva will care !
