IRELAND U21 MANAGER Jim Crawford has had to name two squads ahead of this month’s European Championship qualifiers due to potential travel restrictions.
The Boys in Green, who have four points from their opening two matches, face Luxembourg at Tallaght Stadium on Friday, 8 October.
They then travel to Podgorica to take on Montenegro four days later.
However, as Monetenegro is currently on the UK and Germany’s red list, the Irish players from clubs in those countries would have to quarantine before returning if they were to make the trip.
While Fifa, the Premier League and the English Football League have appealed to the UK government to exempt players, the FAI say it is a developing story as they await a ruling.
For that reason, Crawford has included an additional 13 home-based players for the Montenegro game.
They include Galway United defender Alex Murphy, 17, Bray Wanderers midfielder Brandon Kavanagh — who is on loan from Shamrock Rovers — and 18-year-old Sligo Rovers forward Johnny Kenny.
