PATRICK KELLY IS set to return to training with Cork next weekend and will be fit for their All-Ireland football quarter-final tie on the August Bank Holiday weekend despite missing last Sunday’s Munster final triumph against Clare through injury.
Kelly has been hampered in recent weeks with a hip problem that was properly diagnosed when he visited a specialist on Wednesday in Cork. The attacker is set to receive an injection today that will help alleviate any pain over the next couple of months and while there is the prospect that he could need to undergo an operation to cure the problem later in the year, he will be available for Conor Counihan’s side for the remaining duration of their campaign.
“I have a hip injury called FAI,” Kelly revealed to TheScore.ie. It’s basically a case where the leg bone is not rotating properly with the hip. I’m getting the injection now to try and sort it. Hopefully then I’ll be able to go back training next weekend. There is a chance that I might need an operation in the post season later on in the year but I’ll have to see what happens as the year goes on. For now I should be alright for the rest of the season with Cork and my club Ballincollig. It’s good to get it sorted.”
