Troy Parrott makes second Premier League appearance, but it's too little too late

The 18-year-old Ireland striker came off the bench in the dying moments.

TROY PARROTT MADE his second Premier League appearance today, coming on in second-half stoppage time with Tottenham 3-2 down against Wolves.

The Irish international barely got a sniff, however, in less than four minutes on the field.

Tottenham had led twice through Steven Bergwijn and Serge Aurier, but goals from Matt Doherty, Diogo Jota and Raúl Jiménez saw Wolves lead with 17 minutes remaining.

The North Londoners’ response was tame, and they couldn’t turn the game around in the dying minutes.

Dublin-born Parrott has found game time hard to come by since making his Premier League debut against Burnley on 7 December.

That 5-0 win had previously been his only Premier League appearance, with manager Jose Mourinho publicly stating his belief that the 18-year-old is “not ready” for senior first-team football.

However the ongoing injury problems at Spurs, who are missing strikers Harry Kane and Son Heung-min through injury, saw Parrott promoted to the bench for the 2pm kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and eventually replace Ben Davies to loud cheers from the home support.

Mourinho made a total of four changes before kick-off, dropping defenders Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

Paulo Gazzaniga replaced captain Hugo Lloris, who missed out with a groin injury.

Tanguy Ndombele dropped to the bench, with Eric Dier, Serge Aurier and Dele Alli all returning to the starting team.
