WITH JUST OVER 70 days until Irelandโs World Cup opener, and Joe Schmidtโs squad now knee-deep in preparations, Irelandโs home and alternate kits for this yearโs tournament in Japan โ as well as their post-World Cup attire โ have been unveiled.
The Canterbury-designed World Cup kits will be worn by Ireland as they bid to navigate their way out of Pool A alongside hosts Japan, Scotland, Russia and Samoa in what will be Schmidtโs final campaign in charge.
As per World Rugby regulations, teams are not permitted to display sponsorโs logos on World Cup jerseys, so Irelandโs home jersey for the tournament is a simple design, with the RWC 2019 branding, the Canterbury logo and the IRFU crest emblazoned on it.
Ireland will wear their traditional white shorts and green socks, and the home jersey is priced at โฌ90 and โฌ66 for kids.
โThe home jersey arrives in a familiar and distinctly Irish Bosphorus green with subtle white trim and is complemented by classic white shorts and a hyper realistic 3D silicon IRFU logo,โ Canterbury say.
The alternate white kit, meanwhile, has the same crossover collar design with a navy colouring across the shoulders.
โThe new alternate jersey comes in a striking anthracite and textured white,โ the designers added. โThe jerseys feature Ogham script for โAontachtโ or โUnityโ, representing the unique coming together of the four proud provinces of Ireland.โ
โCanterbury has produced a range of kit that ticks all the boxes from a player perspective in terms of functionality, comfort and design,โ Robbie Henshaw said.
โFirst and foremost the kit needs to stand up to the physical and environmental challenges that await us in Japan, but it also needs to look good on and off the pitch, for players and fans alike.โ
Ireland open their World Cup against Scotland on 22 September, but the new kits are likely to get a run out before then, when Schmidtโs side face Italy, England and Wales in warm-up games in August and early September.
The new non-World Cup jerseys โ essentially the same design but including sponsors Vodafoneโs logo, with the Canterbury logo moved from centre to left and minus the World Cup badge โ will be donned post-Japan.
What do you think of the new kits?

Would look a lot better with a certain Noel wearing it.
@#JUSTICE4NOEL: the fabric isnโt stretchy enough to contain your guns Noel!
@KH: ogham script and the only one to k ow or appreciate it is yourself Noel, then again it could be any script or language and youโd know it.
โThe new stripโs shorts comes with a distinctive built in bum flap โ synonymous with Irelandโs history of $hitting themselves at world cupsโ
Looks like a Polaroid from the 80โs was used to take the pics.
@Ian Verdon: Itโs to disguise the manky shade of green theyโve used.
@Max Power: if the photos leaked by Next are anything to go by they went with toxic sludge green for the home shirt. Canterbury seriously letting themselves down with shirt designs lately. Have to say Macron have make some excellent shirts for Scotland the last few years.
@Max Power: It should be much darker green
The most terrible design they have come
Up with yet! Honestly a 5 year old
Could have done better!
Canterbury should be ashamed for designing that!
@Aaron Tynan: also can I just say the colour grey is cursed! Lol Manchester United, wales football team! All had horrible seasons in grey. Did the all blacks wear grey when they got knocked out by France a few world cups back?
@Aaron Tynan: what can you do with a green Jersey. They are limited by the irfu specification just like the all blacks are. They cannot even choose green shorts.
@Aaron Tynan: Iโve seen other pics and it seems more white in those with either grey or green speckles on it, itโs just the extremely poor lighting/ picture quality in the pics provided that makes it look grey. Either way itโs a very uninspiring design tbh.
@Gareth Wogan: the IRFU then need to relax a little and be less conservative with design selection. By the way I posted a jersey design on the Irish rugby fan forum on Facebook. Instantly trending.
And Iโm not a creative or designer, but goes to show how bad this design is!
@Aaron Tynan: itโs actually white with green, these pics are terrible
@Aaron Tynan: is there a link for your shirt please? Would like to see some others, as I do not like this apparent Aldi version the IRFU have gone with.
@Darius Guppy: itโs on the Irish rugby fan forum, on Facebook. but I think you have to request to join.
Alternatively, happy to send to you as direct message on Instagram or email if you want to share.
@Aaron Tynan: Manchester United won the league the year they had the grey kit.Horrible season is a massive stretch
@John Kelly: they changed out of the kit against Southampton during half time because they were 3 Down, and had lost the other games they played in those colours. They never wore it again that season.
Apparently they had an eye specialist from Liverpool uni say itโs to do with how grey blends in with the background and crowd, rather then strong colours like blue, red green.
Looks like a cheap aldi or lidl jersey
@David Higginbotham: or the Penneyโs GAA jerseys from back in the day. Utter tosh
@David Higginbotham: it is !
People complaining about any new jersey ever made, incoming in 3โฆ2โฆ1โฆ
@Peter McCarthy: I like it. I donโt buy any jerseys with sponsors on them so Iโve been looking forward to this. Much nicer than the last world cup jersey. Canโt wait for Japan now!
@Toomasu Sumitsu: you seem like a nice pleasant happy go lucky type of a chap
That speckled egg away kit is gack
Looks like the pennyโs version of the Italia 90 Irish kit I had when I was 10
Ah ffs itโs a green jersey!!! whatโs wrong with it I think itโs grand !
I like them.
Canโt believe itโs green.
The green Wales away kit is vastly superior to our home kit.
@Summer Bay Devil: Ah shite, Iโm far from convinced. That 2 shades of green thing on a quartered shirt isnโt anything to get excited about.
@Shane McGettrick: By comparison to ours it is!
Que?
โBosphorous Greenโ?!?
Isnโt the Bosphorous the river that goes through Istanbul?
Ahmโฆโฆ. Istanbul tโwouldnt be one of the first things I think of when I think of Ireland??
Hope the performances on the pitch are better than these kits because they are awful
โฌ90 for an Aldi lookalike
โฌ90. Wow thatโs a bit high.
Why give it to a NZ manufacturer? Could OโNeilโs or Azzurro have got a look in?
@Gar:
Certain people are always going to complain no matter what the Jersey looks like. Personally I think itโs looks grand, especially the world cup one without the sponsor. However I stopped buying Leinster and Ireland jerseys when they went away from the cotton fabrics into the more hi tech stretch skin tight ones. I usually only buy training gear and whatnot now. I donโt really care what the Jersey looks like as long as the lads do their stuff on the pitch. The result of a likely quarter final against South Africa will untimely be what Joe Schmidts era will be judged on.
90 blips is a bit muckin fuch for a t-shirt
I really donโt understand what a โhyper realisticโ logo is or how it differs from a normal realistic logo. Also fair play to Robbie never knew he was so interested in Jersey.
Whatโs the big red stain on the front of it
Vodafone need to cop themselves on with that red logo on the Irish jersey
It possibly looks better in the shop because the pictures donโt look great tbh.
Is there no one out there that can design a Jersey that will make you say, wow I want that. Whoever makes the decision must be there saying, โno need for these great fancy, modern looking jerseys, we will stick with the sensible green and thatโs the way it has always been, now thatโs thatโ . Miserable le looking photo to be honest. Just saying is all.
Thereโs a video on the IRFU site that is a better representation.
Itโs not as bad there. The photos are terrible. Someone was getting carried away with their iPhone filters.

Both are godawful. Seriously who the hell signs off on this crap?
They actually seriously and unfortunately look like the cheap knockoff gear aldi and lidl do
So it is exactly the same as all the other Canterbury World Cup jersies, except in green.
It looks so cheap and tacky,Similar to the ones you see for a fiver in supermarkets. Problem here is this pox will be near 100 quid .
@John Kelly: look up the DH gate app.
Jerseys coming from the same factories in China etc. but sold at wholesale prices.
$20 for a jersey. Same quality. Iโve bought a bunch and all were good.
Nothing new still not the greatest design
Interesting colours โฆtechnicolour yawn
When are they released?
@drewbedo: Available now. Always going to be pricey without Vodafone logo and the subsidy they give the jersey price with a logo.
So boring
