THE42.IE CLAIMED THE prize for Sports Media Outlet of the year at last nightโ€™s Irish Sport Federation awards.

The awards, now in their fourth year, were established to โ€˜recognise excellence in the Irish sports industry, while highlighting its contribution to the Irish economyโ€™.

Mary Hannigan of the Irish Times won the Jimmy Magee Sports Journalist of the Year Award at the Crowne Plaze Hotel ceremony while other award categories include Best Sporting Event, best Sports Business, Best Sports Innovation and Best 20ร—20 initiative.

โ€œIrish sport is in rude health right now,โ€ Federation of Irish Sport CEO Mary Oโ€™Connor said. โ€œThe corporate community invested โ‚ฌ140 million in sports sponsorship in 2018 and the Irish Government has recently pledged to double its investment in sport from โ‚ฌ111 million annually to โ‚ฌ222 million annually over the next 10 years.

โ€œIt is important this investment is delivered upon, as it will in turn help improve sporting infrastructures and grow participation rates, which will in turn create further opportunities for corporate investment, sponsorship and collaboration.โ€

Well done to the 42. That said I am not a fan of the Irish sports media. They are part of the cosy P.C consensus that exists here. Most of them follow an agenda. Which is obvious if you look at the posts on the site.

@Daniel Murray: off the ball has gone to the dogs.. Itโ€™s grand if you want to listen to hipster culchies talking on about the Premiership two and a half hours every night.. Newstalk was a much better station was it was only Broadcast in Dublin..

@David Garland: OTB is pure garbage alright especially that morning crap. Just a platform for middle aged Ger Gilroy to sit in a room that looks like the sporting equivalent of Wayneโ€™s World and talk sh ite. Itโ€™s utterly cringeworthy. And then thereโ€™s the ginger bloke next to him. He has no credibility, at all, yet feels the need to offer his worthless opinions. Havenโ€™t watched or listened to Newstalk in ages. A thoroughly dreadful station.
