TEENAGER JORDAN LEE continued Ireland’s remarkable performance at the Para Athletic European Championships as he defied his relative experience to claim high jump bronze.
The 18-year-old, competing in his first European Championships, cleared 1.75m to finish third in the T47 final, to become Ireland’s sixth medallist in Berlin this week.
Lee follows Jason Smyth, Orla Comerford, Greta Streimikyte, Orla Barry and Noelle Lenihan in finishing on the podium, and said afterwards there is much more to come from him.
“I am very pleased to win the bronze medal, I am only 18 and this is my first European Championships but I think I can do more and now I am more determined to do better in future events,” the Kerry native said.
Meanwhile, Smyth cruised into the men’s 100m T13 final in this morning’s heats.
The five-time Paralympic gold medallist has already claimed 200m glory this week and will bid for another memorable double in this evening’s final at 5.42pm Irish time.
Elsewhere, David Leavy will compete in the 1500m final at 5.16pm Patrick Monahan will go in the 800m final at 7.17pm.
