AS ITV’S PANEL looked to soothe a nation’s collective pain in the aftermath of England’s World Cup defeat to Croatia, Roy Keane was quick to inject a dose of realism into the conversation with a typically honest assessment of the Three Lions’ campaign.
Mario Mandzukic struck deep into extra-time to break England hearts in Moscow and send Croatia through to a first-ever World Cup final, where they will meet France on Sunday.
Gareth Southgate’s side deserve huge credit for their run to the semi-final and certainly they exceeded all expectations in Russia, with Ian Wright, Gary Neville and Lee Dixon praising the squad for giving their nation reasons to dream over the last month.
But things got a bit heated in the studio when Keane interjected and said England got too carried away by talking about a potential final and how ‘it was coming home’, rather than focusing on the task in hand against Croatia.
Poor Gary Neville didn’t know where to look.
Why can't we be excited Roy? Why can't we be happy? We loved every minute of it! 🤷🏾♂️ 🦁🦁🦁 pic.twitter.com/F5rNH6wcHu
