There was a mad end to the Melbourne derby that produced this 99th-minute open-goal miss

Melbourne Victory midfielder James Troisi was the guilty party.

MELBOURNE VICTORY HELD a 2-1 lead over city rivals Melbourne City late into injury-time during todayโ€™s A-League derby.

With the clock approaching 99 minutes, City had one last chance draw level from a corner. Goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis headed forward to become an auxiliary attacker, but when the ball fell to him on the edge of the box, he lost his footing and Victory broke in numbers.

Australian midfielder James Troisi raced into the opposing half and had the task of side-footing the ball into an empty net โ€” but he somehow managed to put his effort wide of the mark.

Luckily for him, the final whistle went and Victory earned the bragging rights.

FH looked an average loi team who got a goal against the run of play last week. We were the better team but they might have been keeping it tight.. but if they play like they did last wed and we play like we can then we will advance.. i firmly believe we will score tonight. Garts is a massive loss in the centre of defence but barrett is a good replacementโ€ฆ we are playing FH for โ‚ฌ1.2m and a guaranteed 4 more games minimum in Europe.

Disappointed there isnโ€™t a LIVE ticker thread for this game. Itโ€™s only the champions of Ireland playing in the worldโ€™s most lucrative competition. RTE not broadcasting it is a disgrace. And they claim to be supporters of domestic football. (Yes I know itโ€™s on Eir Sport).

Dundalk playing some nice football here, theyโ€™ve been the better team so far, unlucky to be behind. Horgan & McMillan are doing very well. Theyโ€™re just lacking a bit of composure in the final third.

And still nothing. Surely a live ticker wasnโ€™t beyond them. They are the champions of Ireland and our only representatives in champions league. Fair dues to Eir for covering it, super game and even better performance from Dundalk.
