RIYAD MAHREZโS SELF-imposed exile after failing to secure a move to Manchester City leaves him running the risk of not getting paid, PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor has warned.
The Leicester City winger has cut a frustrated figure after seeing another transfer window close on him still at the King Power Stadium.
Mahrez had tabled a transfer request in January, as late interest was shown from Premier League leaders City, but once again the Foxes turned a deaf ears to his demands.
The 2016 Premier League title winner and PFA Player of the Year has not been at training since seeing an exit path blocked, and he now faces the threat of Leicester stopping payments of his reported ยฃ100,000-a-week salary.
PFA chief Taylor told talkSPORT on an unfortunate situation for all concerned: โItโs about practicalities. If heโs not in at the club he wonโt be paid.
โFootballers want to play. At the moment thatโs not the situation and in the past we have resolved such situations.
โMahrez has been unsettled by approaches. Heโs a human being.
โWeโre ready to act if weโre called in. We offered our services last week to the club but Iโve not heard anything back.โ
Mahrez has been urged by Leicester boss Claude Puel to โclear his headโ before returning to the Foxes fold.
The issue needs to be addressed sooner rather than later, though, with the current stand-off doing nobody any favours.
Taylor added: โYou canโt get a solution by telling people whoโs wrong.
โIโm not saying itโs a culture which can be embraced but itโs reality, itโs what happens. The game is all about dealing with players and clubs in a practical manner.
โHe needs to get into the right frame of mind for both the club and the player.โ

So if you donโt turn up for work you will not get paid just like every other industry in the world, he signed the contract so if I was Leicester I would take him to court for breach of contract!
@Ronan Barrett: yep that will solve it quickly alright.
Proper order. If you refuse to work then you donโt get paid. Simples :-)
Heโs better off playing. Not playing is physically counter productive. The loss of sharpness/on field game time/fitness could in fact cost him the move he so dearly (it appears) wants.
I think he should off been left go to city..looking for 95 mill is ridiculous, even I todayโs transfer market, he was guaranteed another premier league medal and champs league football. I know people will be calling him a mercenary but to be honest if any decent player was in his situation you cant really blame him.
@Kieran Fogarty: would agree with what u said but going on like this is just silly childish carry on and clubs might think twice about signing him now he should just get on with it and move in the summer
@Kieran Fogarty: why should they let him go? He signed a contract and he leaves when they want him to. City didnโt give them time to buy a replacement.
What planet are Leicester City on. Paid under half a mill for him get offered 65 mill plus player and still demand 95 mill. Fair play to City, and fair play Mahrez. Greedy fckrs. Now their stuck with a moaning player who will leave in summer for a fraction of the 65 mill. After all he done for that club. Should of been giving his move and remembered as a hero by Leicester fanโs. Now look. Anarchy csused by greed.
As a Liverpool fan, did you say the same when Countinho and Suarez wanted to go to Barรงa? Iโm sure you didnโt. Your club held out and got huge money for them. The Coutinho price is particularly unjustified. Yet Leicester are the greedy club?
@Englandโs Envy: thatโs nonsense Marcus. Mahrez is the one in the wrong here not Leicester City though Iโm not surprised youโd take the side of a childish petulant player who has decided to spit his dummy when he didnโt get what he wanted. โAfter all he done for the clubโ? He was only one player on that PL winning team and even though he was one of the best players, it doesnโt entitle him to hold the club to ransom.
@Englandโs Envy: Why wouldnโt Leicester want ยฃ95 million for him? What about the fact that the MIGHTY whiter than white Man City were actually prepared to pay that amount of money for a stand in? Oh but itโs ok now that itโs Man City, the golden boys of Europe..
@Sloop John G: NeeNee the fact you support Man U is why you get personal. Maybe the 5 European cups that glitter on my profile hurt. Any way, he wasnโt solely responsible for the Leicester miracle, but it would never have happened without his magic. Now stop being a delusional maniac and take the Man U goggles of. If you canโt be factual, be neutral, but stop being nasty.
Silly stuff from Mahrez. He should play, He only has 4 months left in the club.
You can see his point
If they donโt pay him would that make the contract void, giving him what he wants?
