MANCHESTER UNITED RECOVERED from their midweek defeat to Tottenham with a comfortable 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town in a win which maintains their grip on second place.
On a day where league leaders Manchester City dropped two points away to Burnley, Jose Mourinhoโs side cut the gap between the city rivals to 13 points.
David Wagnerโs side inflicted a first Premier League defeat of the season on the hosts when they met in October with a 2-1 win.
Huddersfield succeeded in frustrating United throughout a first half which saw no goals but witnessed a big call for a penalty which fell on deaf ears.
United recorded 16 shots to the visitors four in a largely one-sided meeting which saw Mourinhoโs side maintain 74% possession throughout.
They finally broke the deadlock ten minutes after the break with Romelu Lukaku notching his 12th Premier League goal of the season.
Juan Mata peeled away smartly along the left wing before delivering a dangerous cross aimed towards the front post which the Belgian forward managed to steer past goalkeeper Jonas Lรถssl with precision.
Alexis Sanchez failed to score in either of his first outings since signing from Arsenal during the January transfer window against Yeovil or Tottenham three days ago.
But he managed his first in United colours at the third attempt when he rebounded Lรถsslโs penalty save after the Chilean was hauled down inside the area by Hefele.
With Pep Guardiolaโs side dropping points, Mourinho has cut the gap at the top of the Premier League to 13 points after City were held 1-1 at Turf Moor by Sean Dycheโs Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

Huddersfield in trouble if they canโt even beat united :^
Anyone see my prediction at the start of the live report on the game? Iโm a football genius!!
Never realised Sanchez was that much of a work horse. Heโs fairly dogged.
@Nollaig Elliot: what happened him against Spurs
@Jamie Smith: genuine question or smug sarcasm?
@Johnno Byrne: you must be new here I donโt do sarcasm
@Jamie Smith: obsessed
@Jamie Smith:
You win some, loose some.
@Nollaig Elliot: Duracell is his parental parent. United dominated them. Pogba and Matic cannot play together pal. Proof is in the pudding. Mata and martial and sanchez, with Pogba roaming and Herrara and matic holding would frighten the knickers off a 90 year old nun. If they are let EXPRESS.
@Nollaig Elliot: not when youโre paid ยฃ500k a week
@Jamie Smith:
Well they lost on Wednesday and won today, did they not? Therefore, you win some and you lose some. It doesnโt matter if you are paid a million a week.
@Jamie Smith: now thereโs a stupid comment if ever Iโve seen one
@Teddyzigzagbigbag: Jamie with a stupid comment???? Never..
Be interesting to see if Pogba ups his performances or downs tools after been dropped.
@Eric Djemba-Djemba: Played pretty well when he came on
@Stephen Lyons: He did, but he needs to do it continuously against a higher calibre of opposition.
City starting to feel the pressure, Unitedโs league to lose now #GGMU
Pogba with his hood up and hands in his pocket for the minute silence and he gets the captains armband sometimes?!needs a good kick up the arse and needs to respect the club.
