IRELAND’S SEAMUS POWER is tied for third and still in the hunt at the Sanderson Farm Championships in Mississippi.
After sitting just two shots off the lead with play suspended during the third round yesterday, the Waterford native lagged slightly behind when the action resumed.
Two bogeys and three birdies on the back nine resulted in a round of 71, so he’s now six behind American Ryan Armour, who leads.
Alongside 30-year-old Power on nine-under and tied for third are USA trio Scott Strohmeyer, Beau Hosslier and Vaughn Taylor, and Canada’s Ben Silverman.
“It was tough,” Power told www.pgatour.com after the round.
“The breeze, it’s hard to figure out. Some holes feel like they’re running parallel but the breeze just moves enough to effect it by 8-10 yards. That’s what I struggled with there.
“It was going to be tough for everyone so you just had to hang in there. You knew if you could give yourself some chances on the greens, you’d make some putts. The greens are perfect. That’s what I was trying to do.”
He continued: “The first couple of rounds last year, I played pretty well.
“I like the golf course, it fits my eye. I can see a way of getting around it even if I’m not playing my best, which is nice. Hopefully I can do the same tomorrow.”
Armour — who like Power is chasing a maiden PGA Tour title — carded 67.
He dropped shots on the 5th, 6th and 7th, but recovered in the latter stages to take the top spot while fellow American Chesson Hadley slotted into second.
