KATIE TAYLOR’S WORLD title fight at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium will go ahead after her opponent, Anahi Sanchez, weighed in one pound over the lightweight limit and then failed to make weight on her second attempt two hours later.
The WBA lightweight champion tipped the scales at 9st 10lbs during the original weigh-in, and was afforded two hours to shed the costly pound.
Taylor, who goes into Saturday’s title bout with six previous wins, weighed in at 9st 8.5lbs.
Matchroom Sport this evening confirmed via email that tomorrow night’s bout will go ahead, but as expected after the champion’s issues on the scales, only Taylor can win the now-vacant WBA world title.
The announcement read: “Anahi Sanchez failed to make the weight when she returned to the scales.
The two teams have agreed that the fight will go ahead, the WBA World Lightweight title is now vacant and only Katie can win the belt tomorrow night.
Speaking to Sky Sports this afternoon, Bray native Taylor said: ”It doesn’t bother me. I’ve completely focused on my performance.
“My mind is purely on the fight. It’s up to her to get the weight off. Tomorrow evening is definitely the biggest night of my career.”
