DUNDALK WILL HAVE at least two of their most experienced campaigners on board when they bid to regain the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division title next season.
The Lilywhites have announced that both Brian Gartland and Chris Shields have signed new two-year contracts which will see them remain with the club until the end of 2019.
As well as being part of last year’s memorable European run, the duo have each won three Premier Division medals, an FAI Cup, two League Cups and a President’s Cup during their time at Oriel Park.
Shields’ new deal will see his tenure with Dundalk extend to eight seasons. The 26-year-old midfielder has made over 200 appearances since joining the club from Bray Wanderers in January 2012.
A 30-year-old central defender who is Dundalk’s vice-captain, Gartland signed for the Louth outfit from Portadown in the summer of 2013.
Having won the EA Sports Cup last month, both players will bid to help Dundalk complete a cup double at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday week when they face newly-crowned Premier Division champions Cork City in the FAI Cup final.
Great stuff. Doing us proud. Mention for his caddy Simon as well.
A very consistent performer in recent times. Keep her lit shaymie boy.
