LIVERPOOL DEFENDER DEJAN Lovren has accused Romelu Lukaku of deliberately standing on him during the 0-0 Premier League draw with Manchester United.
The centre-back made a sliding challenge on the striker in the second half of the stalemate at Anfield, after which Lukaku seemed to struggle to extricate himself from the tangle of legs.
Lovren rolled away with his hands to his face as Lukaku freed himself and replays of the incident suggested the Belgium international caught him with the heel of his boot.
The officials took no action at the time and it is reported the Football Association will not pursue a case against Lukaku, but Lovren believes he intentionally made contact.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Maribor, he said:
“I made a tackle and I felt he was over me and could have moved away. My honest view is that he did it on purpose.
“It is not my decision. He seemed nervous during the game and maybe that’s why. Normally if you do it, you apologise.
“It happened and it’s over. Nobody can change it.”
The draw meant Liverpool have only won one of their last eight games in all competitions, including the Champions League, in which they drew their opening group games against Sevilla and Spartak Moscow.
Lovren says frustrations are still high that they could not get all three points against Jose Mourinho’s side but he insists they should take confidence from the way they played.
“There is still frustration because we played much better than United,” he said. “We had chances that we didn’t take but after each game you have to take the positives.
“We showed to everyone that we can play against big teams. There is no bad mood within the dressing room. We are confident.”

Stop playing the victim and get focused on the next game. Looked like an accident as he didn’t look down but nobody knows but Lukaku..
@Irishoverseas: because everyone just randomly swings a heel at a guy lying on the ground.
@Stan Stynes: it’s normal to put ur foot on the ground.. unfortunately on this occasion someone was in the way..
@Irishoverseas: denial is not a river in Egypt
@Irishoverseas: He said it was his OPINION…. Isn’t he entitled to it since its his face???
@Stan Stynes: that where you went wrong. There was no random swing. It was an accident. He was actually to asleep during the game to come up with anything like that.
@Irishoverseas: all in denial manc pr1ck5
Lovern has no right to complain about anything this season considering how bad he’s been…if I was him I’d avoid the limelight
Another example of the ” United way”
He’s the guy who said he wouldn’t go to the last world cup for Croatia if he wasn’t guaranteed a starting place.! Seems like a right clown
The FA should look at it. It was a nasty and cowardly thing to do from a guy clearly frustrated with how poorly he was playing.
@The Bloody Nine: Read the article. The FA have looked at it . They won’t be pursuing any action against Lukaku.
@Gerry Ivie: my apologies, Gerry, I glossed over that part. Let me rephrase – the FA should do a lot more than just look at it…
@The Bloody Nine: the most reasonable unbiased person on the 42
@Jamie: and I’m not being sarcastic
@Jamie: thanks, Jamie.
Talk about stirring up sh!t. He needs to focus on how cr@p he is playing at the moment.
There was many things horrible and cowardly about United and Lukaku’s performance but that “stamp” was not one of them. If you watch it in real time you can’t say he meant it. Non-issue.
It boils down too “there is frustration because we played better than United” the manager, the players, the fans still can’t get over the fact they dropped two points against a piss poor United performance on the day. Lovern is a joke, his own fans have singled him out how poor he’s been for how long.. claiming to take 5 pain killers before a game, should of taken 6 and prevented him rolling around like a premadonna, it was an accident every pundit and the fa have concluded it
This circus is worse the the Arsenal one.first the manager is looking to blame others ,now the players are. Pity he didn’t really kick him in the head it might wake him up and remember that he’s a professional football and not a Sunday morning cling on
Idiotic stuff from Lovren. Best left alone. Only Lukaku knows what he meant to do and unless Lovren’s more skilled at mind-reading than he is at defending, which in fairness wouldn’t be too unlikely, this is just a load of hot air
