KERINS O’RAHILLY’S AND WEST Kerry booked the first two places on offer in this year’s Kerry senior football championship at Austin Stack Park in Tralee this evening.
David Moran and Tommy Walsh both found the net as Kerins O’Rahilly’s saw off divisional outfit East Kerry, who fielded Kerry minor star David Clifford, by 3-12 to 1-6.
The winners were in front 1-7 to 1-4 at the break thanks to a Moran goal as he made amends for an earlier miss from a penalty.
Former county senior Jack Sherwood raised a green flag for East Kerry but they struggled in the second half as Walsh and Gavin O’Brien added further goals for Kerins O’Rahilly’s.
Barry John Keane and Jack Savage grabbed 0-5 and 0-3 respectively as Kerins O’Rahilly’s moved a step closer to a first final place since 2008.
West Kerry, backboned by the An Ghaeltacht side who have reached the Kerry intermediate decider, were too strong as they overturned 2014 champions Austin Stacks by 1-17 to 0-14.
An Éanna Ó Conchúir goal in the 10th minute helped West Kerry move into a commanding position and they were in front 1-10 to 0-8 at half-time.
Austin Stacks countered through David Mannix and Darragh O’Brien in the second half but the closest they came on the scoreboard was three points.
West Kerry had nine different scorers with forwards Sean Mícheál Ó Conchúir and Dara Ó Sé impressing in attack while Kerry senior Brian Ó Beaglaoich struck two points in the second half.
Tomorrow All-Ireland club kingpins Dr Crokes take on Kenmare while Rathmore meet South Kerry in a double-header at Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney.

Congratulations Sarah; superb gold
Great stuff.
Superb to see an Irish athlete competing and dominating in such an event, and breaking records into the bargain. Well done to her, her family, coaches, etc. They all play a part in such successes.
My only concern for her might be having to run in hot temperatures. It looks like the weather there suited her, given our poor Irish disposition towards heat! I hope she proves me wrong, regularly, if she keeps competing.
