FORMER HURLER OF the year Richie Hogan was quick out of the blocks with his All-Star team for 2017.
The Kilkenny star originally plumped for a selection made up of seven members of Galway’s victorious side, four from runners-up Waterford, three Cork men and Tipperary’s John McGrath – before later ‘changing his mind.’
Hogan’s second XV looked much different – and appears to be more of an alternative pick.
The quality of both sides provides a clear indication of the difficult task that lies in store when selectors sit down to formulate the official GAA/GPA Opel All-Stars later in the year.
But we suspect that Richie’s first choice will be closer to the actual 15 that’s picked – although there’s no place for All-Ireland final man-of-the-match David Burke, while Wexford have been ignored by the Danesfort man.
Burke and Wexford’s Lee Chin were included in his second pick, however.
Hogan’s unsure who’ll win the prestigious Hurler of the Year award, but has plumped for Galway’s Conor Whelan to claim the Young Hurler gong.
