Tyrone McKenna gets big break as he lands Sky Sports scrap with heralded British slugger

‘The Mighty Celt’ will face Tommy Coyle on the undercard of Ryan Burnett’s world title unification bout.

BELFAST LIGHT-WELTERWEIGHT TYRONE McKenna has secured a career-biggest fight on the undercard of Ryan Burnett’s world title unification in Belfast.

The ‘Mighty Celt’ (14-0-1, 6KOs) will trade leather with Hull’s Tommy Coyle (23-4, 11KOs) at the SSE Arena in his hometown on 21 October having called out every attainable name under the sun for the bones of a year.

Coyle will present a sternest test to date for the six-foot-one southpaw from Lenadoon, and holds a victory over former WBO interim world champion Michael Katsidis amongst high-profile defeats to Olympic gold medalist Luke Campbell and former interim WBA champ Derry Matthews.

McKenna-Coyle will be one of the televised bouts during Sky Sports’ broadcast of Burnett-Zhakiyanov – the first world title unification ever to take place on Irish soil.

McKenna and Coyle previously sparred in the lead-up to the latter’s defeat to Campbell. The 27-year-old Antrim fighter will still headline the Ginley Promotions bill at Belfast’s Devenish Complex on September 16th.

Can’t wait for today. As a Dub we had to endure so many barren years. I’ve nothing but respect for Mayo. While they’ve been unlucky so many times at least they’re there. Here’s to a classic today. Up the Dubs!

No All Ireland between 1995 and 2011. When I was working the All Ireland finals in my Taxi all I heard from the Country Folk was “Dublin are a disgrace, yous have the biggest population and more money and ye can’t win feck all” Now the hypocrites are saying the opposite “I fecking hate the Dubs, yous have the biggest population and more money how are the rest of us to ever win anything, you’ll have to be split in two. Its a disgrace” Up the Dubs and long may it continue..

An Irish man has just run 156 miles in under 25 hours placing 3rd at 47 years old,I’m sure our spring chicken dub team can take some inspiration from this…The journal should give this man a mention…..

@ fork. He placed 3rd? After 156 miles? In under 25 hours and him 47 yrs old? Must have been a real bummer to discover that only the top two got All Ireland tickets.
