STEVE MCCLAREN IS back in football after agreeing to join the coaching staff at Israeli club Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
The 56-year-old, who has been out of a job since being sacked by Derby County in March, will act as a coaching consultant to Maccabi manager Jordi Cruff.
The pair would have worked together briefly at Manchester United when McClaren was Alex Ferguson’s assistant and Cruyff — the son of Dutch legend Johan — was still playing.
McClaren has had mixed fortunes in management during spells in charge of the England national team, Middlesbrough, FC Twente, Wolfsburg, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Derby County.
Steve McClaren has a wealth of knowledge and is vastly experienced at the highest levels of European football,” said Maccabi’s owner Mitch Goldhar.
“We are delighted to add a person of his calibre to our staff on a coaching consultant role as we are all sure he can contribute to Maccabi Tel Aviv’s coaching and playing staff.”
