SUNDERLAND HAVE CONFIRMED that Darron Gibson is set to face an internal disciplinary process after footage emerged of him criticising teammates after Saturday’s 5-0 loss to Celtic.
The Ireland international was filmed with supporters in a bar, with footage uploaded to social media in which he described his side as ‘sh**’.
He said that certain teammates ‘did not care’ about playing for the Black Cats, but maintained that he was committed to the club.
“I might be off my face in here but I still want to play for Sunderland,” he said in the video. “The rest of them f***ing don’t though.”
The club released a statement earlier today.
It read: “Darron Gibson has not conducted himself in a manner befitting Sunderland AFC.
“We will initiate our internal disciplinary process. Darron has apologised this [Monday] morning.”
The 29-year-old has been at the club since joining from Everton in January, and has made 12 appearances since.
Sunderland were relegated from the Premier League last season, and begin their 2017-18 Championship campaign at home against Derby County on Friday.

His career has been on such a downward trajectory since securing the 2011 Nations Cup.
How is he only 29??? Seems like he’s been around for ages and has been on a downward spiral for most of those years.
@Adrian Harpur: made his debut at united having just turned 18. Mad to think how it went as he got decent enough game time during his career there considering his ability.
@Conor Flynn: just checked there, he has only 146 club caps to date since he joined Utd in 2005. True though that he got a lot of game time with them given his level.
Probably shouldn’t have said what he Said in a pub with fans but most of what he said was most likely bang on. Seems to actually care about the club which says a lot considering he only joined last Jan. Cant see him playing in the premier league again though, championship is his level
Pity now that ppl cant take the truth, knew Darren as a kid,and his folks ,John and Liz,comes from very good stock,ok maybe he shouldn’t have said it on public, but the youngfella was clearly frustrated.,still rate him,he was badly injured throughout a lot of his career, and remember he represented his country also,or doesn’t that matter?
Nice to see a player who actually cares about his club. If I was a Sunderland fan I wouldn’t have much problem with what he’s said
Injuries and Trapatoni destroyed his career !
Wonder will they pass the ball to him now?
@Con Murphy: prob miss him EVEN IF they wanted to pass to him anyway!
