WESTMEATH AND LAOIS confirmed their passage into the Leinster SHC quarter-finals with round-robin wins this afternoon.
Westmeath defeated Meath by 1-18 to 0-19, despite losing Derek McNicholas to a red card in the opening half. The result puts Westmeath ahead of the Royals and Kerry on scoring difference, and the draw pits them against Offaly on 27 May.
Laois will take on Davy Fitzgerald’s Wexford in the provincial quarter-final the following day.
The O’Moore County beat Kerry by 2-21 to 3-15 in Tralee. Neil Foyle and Paddy Purcell hit the net for Laois against a very spirited home outfit.
Laois secured their third straight win in the competition and they’ll advance with confidence to face the Yellowbellies.
Meath are heading back to the Christy Ring Cup, a year after they secured promotion top the top tier.
The winners between Westmeath and Offaly will play Dublin or Galway in the semi-final, while Kilkenny await the victors of Laois v Wexford in the last four.
