THE FIRST CONNACHT derby of the season between Galway United and Sligo Rovers was called off after referee Graham Kelly from Cork declared the pitch unplayable.
A deluge of rain in the build-up to kick-off led to pools of water on the surface at Eamonn Deacy Park.
Kick-off was put back 15 minutes to see if there was any improvement in conditions but the rain continued to fall and the game was called off.
It was the second home Galway United game to be called off after last weekend’s game against Derry City was rescheduled followed the sudden death of Candystripes skipper Ryan McBride.
