IRELAND’S HOCKEY CAPTAIN David Harte has been recognised at the annual International Hockey Federation (FIH) awards.
The 28-year-old Cork native picked up Goalkeeper of the Year at a ceremony in Chandigarh, India — beating Juan Vivaldi (Argentina), Jaap Stockmann (Netherlands), Vincent Vanasch (Belgium) and Parattu Raveendran Sreejesh (India) to the prize.
Harte, who also claimed the award last year, was a key player for the Green Machine as they qualified for the Olympics for the first time in 2016.

“To win this award truly is an incredible honour and one which I am very proud to receive,” said Harte.
“Even to be nominated for a second time was more than I could have hoped for, especially given the world class goalkeepers involved such as Juan Vivaldi, Vincent Vanasch, Jaap Stockman and PR Sreejesh, all of whom are deserving of the title in this category.
“Although it is an individual award, it partly belongs to my teams at both club and country level as I would not have made it here without them.”

Incredible achievement. Well done Davey.
You man giving the award looks out of it
Beast. A key part of an incredible Irish defence.
To be a good keeper is to have a bad defence! Great to see all the same
