WAYNE ROONEY SAYS that he has no intention of leaving Manchester United, following the two goals he scored in Sunday’s thrilling 3-2 FA Cup Third Round win over Manchester City.
The England forward has, once again, been linked with a move to City after being dropped for the recent league defeat to Blackburn for a lapse in discipline.
He was poor in the subsequent 3-0 loss to Newcastle but scored a brace against City, including one excellent header inside the opening five minutes.
Asked if he had a point to prove against City, Rooney told ITV: “No, not at all. Everything that has been in the press of late is a load of nonsense really.
“There is no problem for me at this club, I want to be at this club for a long time.”
Rooney says that he and his United team-mates were shocked to see Paul Scholes in the dressing room prior to the game, having been persuaded to come out of retirement.
“It was a bit of a shock to be honest, we didn’t know until we were in the dressing room, but he’s a great player,” he said.
On the game, Rooney said: “We knew it was going to be difficult today, going 3-0 up we maybe took our foot off the gas a bit.
“City got two goals and we had to make sure we saw the game out and thankfully we managed to do that.”
