IT WAS NO surprise to see the two Kilkenny schools hurling powerhouses of St Kieran’s and Kilkenny CBS advance to the last four in the premier Leinster senior championship today.
The Kilkenny pair contested last year’s final of the Top Oil Leinster PP SAHC and they’ve claimed the last seven titles between them at this level.
But it was also a really good day for Wexford hurling in the quarter-final action as both St Peter’s from Wexford Town and Good Counsel from New Ross booked their places in the semi-finals.
Ballyhale Shamrocks player Adrian Mullen was in excellent point-scoring form as he hit 0-11 for St Kieran’s and they needed that return to see off Borris VS by 0-14 to 1-9 in Netwatch Cullen Park.
St Kieran’s will next meet St Peter’s College after their emphatic 1-20 to 1-8 success over St Brendan’s (Birr) at MW Hire Park in Dunmore. St Peter’s last reached the Leinster senior final in 2015 when they lost out to St Kieran’s.
The second semi-final will also be clash between Kilkenny and Wexford outfits with Kilkenny CBS set to meet Good Counsel College.
Goals were key for Good Counsel College as they saw off Castlecomer CS by 2-8 to 0-12 at Thomastown GAA club in Kilkenny. The New Ross school’s most recent final appearance in this competition was in 2009.
And Kilkenny CBS had seven points to spare over Dublin North in their 1-19 to 1-12 success in Ratheniska in Laois.
